As an active participant in the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Advanced Reactors, Exosens brings extensive expertise to every stage—from early feasibility studies to technology adaptation. We collaborate closely with global stakeholders to tailor our solutions for a variety of advanced and X-SMR concepts.

Next-generation nuclear systems, particularly Generation IV reactors, integrate significant technological advancements compared to earlier designs. Current market focus is directed toward sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFRs) and other fast reactor types, such as lead-cooled fast reactors.

Through our long-standing partnership with the CEA, Exosens has delivered detectors for high-temperature applications in support of key French fast reactor projects, including:

  • Phénix – A prototype fast breeder reactor
  • Superphénix (SPX) – A large-scale fast breeder reactor demonstration
  • ASTRID – The Advanced Sodium Technological Reactor for Industrial Demonstration

Beyond fission technologies, Exosens is also actively engaged in magnetic confinement fusion research and contributes to the global roadmap for fusion energy. As part of this commitment, Exosens is a key contributor to the ITER project, a major international initiative involving the European Union, the United States, Japan, China, South Korea, and India.
